So tired.....

It has been a whirlwind week.  Started at the new office last Monday. Spent the week putting out fires and trying to get settled.  It was one of our busier weeks of the month, so that didn't help.

With the move, we are having a big sale tomorrow of lots of old furniture, art, lamps, etc that aren't being used in the new space.  While many of the items are a steal compared to their original price, I can say there is NOTHING that would tempt me to spend the prices that are marked.  I had to go over on Thursday and help price -- one of the armoires was priced at $40,000.  Guess that one will have to go to some auction house....can't imagine any of our employees plunking down that kind of cash.

Speaking of the sale, I get to (read: have to) work it as well.  So, no sleeping in for me tomorrow.  That has added all kinds of stress to my brain in trying to get ready for my open house on Monday night.  When you completely lose a Saturday, it gets tricky to squeeze in all the cooking, cleaning and setting up into the weeknights.

That being said, I think I am just about done for Monday night.  All that is left to make is the apple berry salsa (a new addition this year) - and it is best made day before, so that will be Sunday.  Tomorrow after I get home from the auction I plan on straightening the house and getting the table situated.  It is working out that my cleaning lady is coming on Monday, so at least I don't have to stress about the bathrooms being clean for my guests!!  Hoping that I will be able to pretty much have a Sabbath on Sunday.....I NEED IT!

It's getting HOT in here.....

Summertime in Texas......one word HOT!!!

I've made no bones about the fact that I'm a wimp and really really love my air conditioning. Imagine my consternation when, about 5 am yesterday, I heard some popping noises coming from my a/c unit outside (it is right by my bedroom and I was starting to wake up anyway). I walked outside and a burning odor clung to the air. The fan was no longer running, though the blower was running inside the house.

Uh-oh.

I got ready for work in the normal fashion - it wasn't really too bad. I was afraid of what I would face when I got home from work, however. When I got to work I called in a service request from my home warranty service because I knew it wasn't going to fix itself.

Yesterday was a hot day.....near 100 degrees.

I got home about 7:00 pm and it was 85 degrees in my house. Ick. Immediately turned on all the fans just to keep some air moving.

I slept surprisingly well, considering. Much better than my family did those first couple of nights on our vacation to Germany when it was hot hot hot and our hotels didn't have a/c (of course, we didn't have our luggage either!!)

This morning it was miserable. It was 90 in my bedroom. And 80 outside. You know it is bad when you sit outside in July to put on makeup because the breeze is cooler than the air in your house!!! I think it is the first time ever that I've gone to work with wet hair because I just couldn't bear to heat myself up more with the blow dryer.

The repair guys are scheduled to come this afternoon. From talking with folks at work, it sounds like the fan motor probably died, which hopefully will be a quick and easy fix. I might have to take myself to a movie tonight while my house cools off though!!

Stay tuned for more adventures in home ownership!

Summer

Have I mentioned that it is practically summer where I live? It has been so hot and humid this week. Ugh. Does not bode well for the next 3 or 4 months....

I was going to mow my yard on Tuesday because I couldn't remember when I mowed it last. Thankfully, I don't have those tall weed like pollen machines that look yucky in the yard -- I have pretty solid St. Augustine grass that doesn't even look too bad when it is too long. BUT, it stormed and rained on Tuesday and the ground was really wet and muddy when I got home, so no mowing for me!

Then I had planned to mow tonight, but it was soooo hot when I got home. A phone call from mom this afternoon telling me that she was planning to come and spend the night with me tomorrow had me pondering if I wanted to already have the yard done or plan to get up when it was (slightly) cooler on Saturday morning. The need to sleep in won out. I did eat dinner first and wait until about the last minute to start in order to get it all done before dark. I finished about 8:00, set the sprinklers for 30 minutes and whew, the yard is done for this week. It might be this summer that I break down and hire someone to do this for me. But maybe not.....

So. Mom? We're sleeping in on Saturday!!!

Better.....

Amazing what a little sleep will do for you.....yes, it is still the middle of the night, but I woke up calm and couldn't go back to sleep, so I thought I'd let you know that I'm doing much better.....thanks for the prayers!

When the alarm rings at 4 am, it is way too early.....and still oh so very dark outside.

update: yes, I am in Yuma again counting inventory.....the plane leaves at 6 am, so I have to get up way before breakfast to make it on time.....
