{Early} Birthday, Fall Festival, Etc

Anna's birthday is so close to Christmas that (for now, at least) we are celebrating somewhere around the 3/4 mark.  So, today was the day for her 3rd birthday celebration - even though the actual day isn't until Dec 19.

{the last two photos - of me with Anna and Emily - were taken by the girls....not too bad!}

Then tonight was the Fall Festival at Emily's school.....

this clown costume was actually made by my mom for me 35+ years ago.....worn by me, then Heather, then Emily and now Anna!

with Emily's teacher Ms. Cagle

And some beautiful clouds on my way home.....

Eight Years

I've been inhabiting this little corner of the blogworld for 8 years today.....sometimes I wonder why I still maintain this blog.  In the beginning, I blogged pretty often.  The Blogger dashboard tells me that I've posted 836 times over 8 years.  The first 5 years we definitely my most prolific blogging years.  But the last 4 years, I just haven't felt as compelled to blog.  I don't know if it is because Facebook has taken over my time and attention or have just felt like there wasn't much to say that I hadn't already covered.  I do enjoy reading back over posts from the past and will be glad to to have my blog as an online journal of sorts, so I don't think I'll actually stop blogging anytime soon.  My posts have evolved from random musings in the early years to just sharing photos of projects and vacations more recently.  I don't necessarily expect the pendulum to swing back towards more rambling posts because, really, who needs more noise from the internet blaring at them? But I guess we'll see.

I've made lots of friends through this internet experience - some of whom I've actually met in person! Others are just still my virtual friends but are no less valuable. So thank you for reading....and we'll see where this piece of the internet takes us in the future!

Project

No Ten on Ten today......didn't remember until well into the day that it was even the 10th and by then I just didn't want to take more pictures of my desk.  September 10 is on a Saturday, so maybe I'll be motivated that day.

But, I did want to show off a project that I finished up tonight.....cupcakes in a jar!

Evening project! Yummy cupcakes in a jar.

The inspiration for this project came from my sweet friend Kelly ..... she made these fun treats as hostess gifts for her church wedding shower several years ago.

Why was I making them you ask?  Well, a few months ago I was invited to join the donor council at the blood donor center where I routinely donate platelets.  It is our job to help promote our donor center and support the staff.  Tomorrow night, in lieu of our monthly meeting, we are providing dinner for the blood center staff and I signed up for dessert.  Thought it would be fun to do something creative and unique.

Up next.....vacation photos from beautiful (and cool!) Canada.

Hand of Fate - book review

Hand of Fate by Lis Wiehl and April Henry

(provided by Thomas Nelson Publishers as a part of Book Sneeze)

When the host of a popular Portland, OR radio talk show is murdered, the Triple Threat Club—a federal prosecutor, an FBI agent, and a journalist—must narrow down the lengthy list of suspects who wanted him dead. Jim Fate, a very outspoken and controversial local radio talk show host, dies suddenly while his show, “The Hand of Fate” is on air. The manner of his death causes widespread panic and chaos as the downtown area is evacuated.

FBI Special Agent Nicole Hedges, crime reporter Cassidy Shaw and federal prosecutor Allison Pierce, three colleagues who are also good friends, team up to piece together the not-so public life of Jim Fate in order to uncover the stunning truth of who killed him—and why.

I was unfamiliar with Lis Wiehl and her stories, but this book will make her one of my regular reads! I was drawn in to the characters and the story very quickly and was completely surprised with the ending – a very good sign for a mystery. The characters were well written and each had depth that was explored and unveiled throughout the book. Twists and turns along the way as the investigation developed kept me turning the pages faster and faster. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Plain Pursuit - book review

A Review of Plain Pursuit by Beth Wiseman

While recovering from a traumatic event in her life, Carley Marek takes a vacation to visit her friend Lillian in Pennsylvania’s Amish community. Carley is more drawn to the Amish community than she expected to be, though is troubled by certain practices that seem to be in conflict with the community’s Christianity.

While Carley is visiting, Lillian’s step-son David becomes very ill. A doctor at the local hospital, Dr. Noah, seems to be very interested in David’s care, but is forbidden by the community to intervene in David’s case. As Carley becomes more involved with Lillian’s family, she is also drawn to Dr. Noah. This places her smack dab in the middle of an issue close to the entire Amish community.

While I expected the book to have a happy ending, I did not expect the plot twists and surprises that are more often found in more suspenseful novels. It was a very easy read and I was pulled into the characters from the first chapter (which encouraged me to devour the book in just one day, even at 300+ pages). I enjoyed the depth to which several characters relationship with God was explored and found that I was able to learn some things about my own relationship along the way.

Panther Creek weekend

Went to Panther Creek this weekend to celebrate my mom's birthday and hang out with the fam....so much fun.

Emily had pigtails for only the second time....so cute!!

I took Friday off so that I was able to get there in time for their pep rally (it's been 15 years since I went to a pep rally!!!)

Emily LOVED riding over to the gym in her wagon. Mommy and Papa gave it to her for her 1st birthday.

She also LOVED the "buhvs" .... balloons are still favorites!

At the football game Friday night, she was all over the place!! Phillip has to work during the game, but the other four of us took turns letting Emily play and run....

These stairs were a favorite item....she thinks that she can climb them......not quite by herself yet!

You can see here that her current speed is RUN!

Emily now has 6 teeth and is eating pretty much anything and everything.....though sometimes she has to be reminded that she likes something.

We celebrated Mom's birthday ..... she got some fun stuff, including two saucers to replace broken ones from the everyday dishes she's had since their wedding!!

And of course, more family photos.....it has become a habit almost every time we are all together....
