Abilene house photos

So, I guess it is about time to share some photos of my new house.  There are still plenty of decorating projects to be done, but here are some shots that give you a glimpse....

Ten on Ten - February 2013

Well, I tried.....but only got 7 photos today.  Started off the day at church and then busily working to unpack in my new house (more photos and a virtual tour to come!) just kept me distracted from pulling out the camera.  Maybe I need to set a timer next month?

box o' jewelry.....ready to have this reorganized so I can see what I have!

yummy breakfast - cooked for me by my daddy....sure am going to miss that when I am in my own house again!

sweet nieces at church

tostada....yum (olives to the side to give to Emily!)

many boxes to unpack!

first of many piles of packing paper heading out to the trash

two casualties of the move - and these were packed by the movers, so I'll definitely be filing a claim

Laundry room mini-makeover

I've been struggling with a messy laundry room for a while.  While I am very thankful to have a laundry room, it is a strange shaped and very awkward room.  The main issue was, as my mom pointed out when she was here before Christmas, my shelves were way too small.

Here is the before....yikes!

The during......that box was way harder to open that it should have been!

stuff spread up and down the hallway.....

.....and the after!  Much larger shelves fill the space better and make more room to spread things out and store like with like.  And even room if some things from elsewhere in the house need to find a new home in here.

Saturday Project

So, in the new bedroom configuration, my old bedside table isn't really cutting it anymore in terms of scale.  I've been on the hunt for something new and a few weeks ago a friend at church let me know that she had *two* that I could have for free!!  So, I brought them home and after trying them each out for a few days finally settled on which one I wanted to keep (the other will go to the church youth group garage sale).

Today was repaint the bedside table project day!  Enjoy the progress.....

before

after sanding, one coat of primer -- not sure it was really necessary, but oh well, it's done now

after two coats of black paint

testing out possible knobs

The knobs options a little closer....any thoughts?

Other things accomplished today: finished and wrapped two baby presents, cleaned out my stash of vases and am sending several off to the youth garage sale, collected other items for donation, straightened the house.  Now to relax a bit more.....

Garage Makeover

For Christmas, one of the things on my dad's wish list was a Garage Makeover. He would buy supplies, if the gift giver would plan the redesign and provide the labor. So, my sister, brother-in-law and I decided to give it to him.

At Thanksgiving, I started taking measurements and planning. The garage really was in pretty good shape in comparison to lots of others as both of their cars fit into the garage. It was organized, but there was just too much stuff and space utilization was not ideal.

So, for Christmas, Daddy received blueprints of the plan for his approval and a shopping list. We hit the after Christmas sale at Lowe's and got three new heavy duty shelving units and a couple of sets of ladder hangers.

This weekend, we all descended on the garage and got busy.

We even had a little helper at the end.
