I can see!!!!

Thanks to all of you blog-friends and family who prayed for my LASIK yesterday. It went completely smoothly and I can see now!!! After the procedure yesterday, I was at 20/40 in my left and 20/80 in my right. This morning, I was at 20/40 in my left and 20/30 in my right! So, steadily improving!!!! Thank so much for your encouraging words and prayers. It really meant a lot to me.

Only 4 more days until I can wear eye makeup again! :-)

Talent Show

Last night was the somewhat annual Talent Show at my church. I say "somewhat annual" because it was only recently revived about 4 years ago, but then we didn't have one last year because we were hiring a new worship minister, etc. And I missed the one the year before that. So, it had been 3 years since I saw a talent show. All I can say is WOW! We definitely have some talented folks in our family. My favorite thing from the whole night was a high school senior and two of his buddies that are in the drumline at their high school. They came drumming in from the back and did some really cool stuff with their drums. It threw me back to high school for a minute because our drum line at AHS had this really cool cadence called "The Beat." Ah, the good ol days.

What makes me a little sad is that many of these talents aren't shared within our church body very often. Mostly because a lot of those talents shared last night are musical with instruments and I come from a church heritage that utilizes only acappella worship during assemblies. Don't get me wrong - I love singing in worship where you can hear the clear voices and all four parts (gasp!). But I do also love rocking out in praise to God. I'm discovering that the Spirit touches my heart in different ways depending on how the worship style I am experiencing.

So anyway, wish you all could have been there....I mean really, guitars, pianos, drums, magic tricks, a masked bicycle stunt rider, a clarinet trio, many vocalists, a 4 year old violinist....can it get any more fun that that?

What do you do?

What do you do when you feel like you need to do something, but are equally being pulled to not do something? That's what I've been feeling all week .... wanting and feeling like I should go to visit the boys at Cook's, but also feeling that I would be intruding .... and 'I don't really know them that well anyway' But, I live so close (really ~1 hour, but relatively close)

So, I was going to go today. Called the hospital to get room information - wouldn't give it out, but would ring the room. So I talked for a minute to Diane. Let her know that I was thinking about coming - she said ok, but you couldn't see Chris and maybe not even us. Ok, well that is really the only reason I would go - to see Mike & Diane (and maybe Chris, but not necessarily). I just wanted them to know that I care. The phone call took care of that, so I decided it would be best not to go.

Then talked with my parents a few minutes ago - they said that the Copes are being inundated with visitors - even ones that say they know the family, but don't really. I forget how well known Mike is and how far reaching his impact. I just think of him as "my" preacher from my home church.

So, for now, I guess all I can do is pray.

Praying

Most of you who read my blog, also read many of the blogs I read. In case you missed it today, though, requests for prayers are being coveted by the Highland church and ACU communities today. Yesterday afternoon a suburban full of middle school kids was returning from a weekend retreat in Arlington. There was a really bad accident....one boy was killed and all the others in the car have been or are still in various hospitals with varying degrees of injuries. For more details visit

Please keep all these families in your prayers!

Almost ready...

Well, today was it....my last appointment with my eye doctor before I head to the surgery center for my LASIK. She tested my eyes, then dialated and tested again. So, still a little fuzzy from the dialation, but marching closer and closer to being ready for my surgery! Final pre-operative testing is this Thursday, then the BIG DAY on Friday, Jan 28. Any prayers would be appreciated!!!

Breaking 3,000!

I knew I was close, but I completely missed it! I've broken 3,000 visitors to this little spot of cyber-space! Thanks for reading!

Back to Reality

Well, tonight is it.....the official end of my vacation. Bleh. I am so grateful to have had the time off -- precious time with family and good, quality me time. But of course, my to-do list is not completed!!!

I did get my Christmas stuff completely put away. Thank goodness! I really, really wish I could just wave my magic wand and it all get wrapped and boxed and re-closeted by itself. The motivation to get it done, besides the fact that it was driving me absolutely CRAZY, is that my friend Kelly and I decided to host my friend Jenny's birthday dinner HERE, at my apartment, in 3 days. Yes, folks, I will have 10-12 people over for a home-cooked dinner on Thursday! Aaack! But, thankfully, my house was still fairly clean from my party, plus I was gone for about a week. So, now that Christmas is down and put away, it really isn't that bad!

For the next few hours, I will attempt to finish up the last remaining straggling items on my to-do list. Most notably, is to re-work my budget for 2005 and complete the homework for my Crown Financial Ministries bible study. Also, I really, really need to write down and firmly establish some basic routines (ala FlyLady). Although I am somewhat "Born Organized," I still get crazy and frazzled and I think structured routines might help me to not feel so out-of-control as I start off this new year.

Then, hopefully, I'll make it to bed at a normal hour and it will be back to work tomorrow!

Happy New Year!

Well, folks, it is officially 2005! Happy New Year everyone! I had a nice, creative evening at my friend Kelly's house. Her last minute shindig ended up being just me and her. So, we spent the evening stimulating the right side of our brains - me making thank you cards for Christmas and Kelly making a new guestbook. Shortly before midnight, I signed the last entry on the inside back cover of her old guestbook to finish it out. A few minutes after midnight, I signed the first entry into her new guestbook. The rule is this: each time you are in Kelly's house for more than 30 minutes, you must sign the book. That is such a fun part of going to her house -- I'm trying to institute a similar tradition here at my little house. One of these days I'll get my parents trained to sign it each and every time they come over.

Don't know about you, but now that the new year is officially rung in, I'm headed to bed. Can't stay up until all hours of the night like I could when I was younger.....
